ROLE OF COMMUNICATION IN CHANGE MANAGEMENT INTRODUCTION What is Change Management? Change management is a structured approach to transitioning individuals, teams, and organizations from a current state to a desired future state. Change management is a systematic approach to dealing with change, both from the perspective of an organization and on the individual level. It is a set of processes that is employed to ensure that significant changes are implemented in an orderly, controlled and systematic fashion to effect organizational change. Objective of change management is to maximize the collective benefits for all people involved in the change and minimize the risk of failure of implementing the change One of the goals of changeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Grapevine information tends to be sketchy enough that it creates a high degree of anxiety, and also a high degree of mistrust of management. So, the earlier you communicate the less likely erroneous or upsetting information will come through the grapevine. Communicate as early as possible about change, but d o not assume that once you have done this the job is over. Communication should occur in anticipation of change, during the implementation, and after the change has been stabilized. Strategies for Communicating Change- 1) Spray and Pray-Employees are showered with a wide variety of information. More information is assumed to equal better communication. Managers pray that staff will pick up on what is needed to be done. The upside of this strategy is that staff is exposed to extensive company information. The downside is that the staff is often unable to discern significant from insignificant information; understand what is happening but not why; and are overloaded with information. 2) Tell and Sell- Information is provided to staff, but it is limited to core organizational issues. Management attempts to both inform staff about changes and sell them on why they are required.
